We will be meeting at The Pirates House this Friday in the ANNE BONNY room which is adjacent to our normal meeting room. The side door will be unlocked if you would prefer to use that entrance.
Our speaker for the meeting this week is Dr. Mary Kay Ross who will be giving a presentation titled "Maintaining Brain Vitality in a Chaotic World."
She will help us understand the growing brain health crisis and why it affects everyone, regardless of age and teach us five simple strategies that we can implement today to improve cognitive health, enhance memory, and prevent cognitive decline.
RCSE looks forward to seeing all members and guests on Friday!
Summer is here, and we'll be helping prepare Haven Elementary for the new school in both June and July this year! This month, we are purchasing books for the Haven Media Center, which are not only deeply valued by the students but also appreciated by our speakers who we donate them in honor of. There are two options to participate:
This past Friday, RCSE took our meeting on the road and visited Savannah Technical College! In addition to a field trip, we had a new member initiation as well. Welcome to club, Tracie! After all Rotary business items were announced, Kim Campbell introduced our speaker, President Ryan Foley.
Dr. Foley was appointed President of Savannah Technical College (STC) in April 2024. He has spent the first year of his presidency listening, learning, and leading. The goal of STC is to fuel the area workforce and they do this through their numerous programs which are offered at 5 different locations/campuses. Students can earn certificates as well as associate degrees. He highlighted a few of their fastest growing programs which include automotives, aviation, culinary, manufacturing, and nursing. 99.6% of graduates are employed upon graduation! In 2024, 338 companies employed a student from STC. He also mentioned their adult education program which offers a high school diploma as well as ESL programs. In conclusion, he said that opportunity is defined as a favorable combination of circumstances, time and place. He believes STC is in a position to offer all of their students the opportunity to thrive in the Savannah area workforce!
