We will be meeting at The Pirates House this Friday in our normal meeting room - Captain Flints Hall. Please enter using the FRONT ENTRANCE!
Our program for this week is Member Minutes from some of our Red Badge members along with a video message from DG Terry Adkins! This is a great opportunity to learn more about your fellow Rotarians and happenings in District 6920!
RCSE looks forward to seeing all members and guests on Friday!
The first meeting of 2026 was a great one with many members, potential members, and guests visiting us from Mexico! Before Michele Parthum introduced our speaker, Kim Campbell reminded everyone of our January service project with Read United and announced the SCAD tour on January 31. Once all Rotary business items were discussed and Happy dollars collected, Jaime Credle gave her presentation on the Green-Meldrim House.
In 2023, the Green-Meldrim House became a 501c3. This house is an important part of Civil War history and Jaime spoke to us about the period of time when Sherman occupied the home. She began by talking about Sherman's March to the Sea. When Sherman arrived in Savannah, he was camped with his men when he received an invitation from Mr. Green to stay at his house in town which became Sherman's headquarters. Sherman received many visitors at the home and hosted Christmas dinner in the dining room which was featured in Harper's Weekly. Another important part of history that took place in the house was Special Field Order 15 (also known as 40 acres and a mule) which set aside 400,000 acres across South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida's coast for newly freed black families.
