In 2023, the Green-Meldrim House became a 501c3.  This house is an important part of Civil War history and Jaime spoke to us about the period of time when Sherman occupied the home.  She began by talking about Sherman's March to the Sea.  When Sherman arrived in Savannah, he was camped with his men when he received an invitation from Mr. Green to stay at his house in town which became Sherman's headquarters.  Sherman received many visitors at the home and hosted Christmas dinner in the dining room which was featured in Harper's Weekly.  Another important part of history that took place in the house was Special Field Order 15 (also known as 40 acres and a mule) which set aside 400,000 acres across South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida's coast for newly freed black families.  If you are interested in learning more about the house or want to take a tour, please visit https://greenmeldrimhouse.org/
