Details for the December 6th Meeting - Parking Update at The Pirates House
We will be meeting at The Pirates House this Friday in our normal meeting room - Captain Flints Hall. The side door to the room will be unlocked if you would prefer to use that entrance. The Pirates House now has signage in the parking lot stating that there is a charge to park there. As a guest, we will have free parking! However, you will need to scan a code at the host stand and have your tag number in order to avoid the parking fee.
Our speaker for the meeting this week is Dr. Denis Watts, Superintendent of the Savannah Chatham County Public School System. She aims to rally a village of educators, administrators, and parents around raising students' literacy rates.

The Annual RCSE Holiday Party will be held on Tuesday, December 10th, at the home of Andrew Cosey from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM. Please join your fellow Rotarians for a night of cheer as we celebrate the holidays! For every person who attends, we are asking that you bring one unwrapped gift that will be donated to CASA. Toys are needed for children up to the age of 18. Savannah Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) mission is to recruit and train volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse and neglect. The toys collected will be given to these children. Please RSVP for this event in order to ensure there is plenty of food and drink for everyone. Spouses and potential members are welcome to attend! You may RSVP to Kerri at rotarysavannaheast@gmail.com If you are unable to attend the holiday party and would still like to donate a gift, we will be collecting them at all December meetings.
Once again, Rotary Club of Savannah East is collecting books for Haven Elementary! The books will be used as Speaker Gifts and will then be donated in honor of the speaker to the Haven Media Center. The librarian at Haven has put together an Amazon wish list of books. When you click to purchase a book, please make sure the shipping address is to YOU. Once you receive the book, you will then bring it to a meeting and give it to Kerri. Thank you for your support of the Haven Media Center!
It was another great day at RCSE! President Mark Sprosty reminded everyone of the book drive for Haven Elementary, the Annual RCSE Holiday Party and Toy Drive, and that the December 13th meeting will be at SEDA. Once all Rotary business items were discussed, Kim Campbell introduced our speaker, Lizann Roberts, who is the Executive Director of the Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition.
The Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition (CGIC) was formed in 2008 under the United Way. It's goal was to measure long term outcomes of initiatives in the community. In 2014, CGIC became it's own non profit. They work in four areas: economic, education, health, and quality of life. Lizann said that CGIC is good at hunting and gathering. Hunting for resources in our community and then gathering people together to make a plan. She then talked about some of their initiatives such as the Chatham Community Blueprint, language skills for 0-5 year olds, The Front Porch, Homeless Court, and Resilient Georgia Initiative. She ended her presentation by saying partnerships are our power to improve community wellbeing. To learn more about CGIC, please visit http://www.coastalgaindicators.org
