The Rotary Club of Savannah East welcomed a talk on one of Savannah famous landmarks, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Lafayette Square. Club member, Peter Palucci volunteers his time giving tours of the fascinating Cathedral, and he is clearly passionate about the Cathedral. He revealed the Cathedral’s history dated back to the when the French Catholic émigrés established Savannah’s first parish, called the Congrégation de Saint Jean-Baptiste in the late 1700’s. Over the centuries there were building moves and a fire which almost destroyed the Cathedral. Eventually the magnificent structure that adorns Savannah today reigned triumphant.
Peter went on to discuss the many incredible murals in the church. While he was only able to scratch the surface of the Cathedral, he will be back again to reveal more on the Catherdal’s organ and its incredible acoustics.
The next Christmas Concert performance at The Cathedral is on Sunday, December 18 at 3:00 PM. The Cathedral Choir will be performing. Thank you Peter.
Brought back by popular demand, RCSE will once again go to The Historic Savannah Theatre for a night of fun. The RCSE Holiday Party will be on Friday, December 16. “A Christmas Tradition” brings you holiday glitz and glitter with a 2-hour performance. The theatre is transformed into a perfect holiday picture, sharing memories of the Christmas standards that you know and love.
Tickets are $15. Only cash or check is accepted. Spouses and children are welcome and encouraged to attend! Tickets will be available for purchase at the next meeting on Friday, December 2. There will be a cap of 4 tickets per member until demand is known. The supply is limited so plan accordingly and purchase your tickets at the meeting!
