We will be meeting at The Pirates House this Friday in our normal meeting room - Captain Flints Hall.
Our program for this week is Michael Bell with Savannah Pride Center. Michael is a human rights activist, creative entrepreneur, media producer, and nonprofit executive with more than two decades of experience advancing LGBTQ+ equity, mental health access, and community-centered systems of care. He currently serves as Executive Director of Savannah Pride Center and his presentation is titled "Meeting the Moment." It will cover the states of LGBTQIA+ Healthcare, Behavioral Health, Housing, Safety, and Philanthropy, and juxtaposes the work Savannah Pride Center is doing in response to meet the needs of the community.
RCSE looks forward to seeing all members and guests on Friday!
What a day at The Pirates House! Bill Von Alt received a +4 and +5 Paul Harris Fellow Pin, three members transitioned from Red to Blue Badge, and we inducted a new member. Welcome to the club, Jaime! Once all presentations were complete, Conni Reynolds introduced our speaker for the day, Emily Zeytoonjian with ESP (Extra Special People, Inc).
Emily began her presentation by showing us a short video about ESP. She shared their mission and vision stating that they want to spark confidence and foster friendships. ESP welcomes people with disabilities regardless of their age as well as their families. The program was founded in Athens five years ago. Since that time, they have added 5 more locations with the Savannah office opening in January 2025. ESP offers year-round programming such as family dinner nights and their mobile coffee cart, Java Joy. Every activity has a 1-1 or 2-1 ratio of volunteers to participants. Due to this ratio, Emily says the best way to help their organization is to volunteer. The following paragraph is a message from Emily about volunteering at Friend Friday.
This summer, we are thrilled to have doubled the size of our camp—a milestone we could not have reached without your partnership and belief in our mission. As we prepare for the season, I would like to personally invite you to experience the joy of ESP firsthand during Friend Friday. Friend Friday is a great opportunity to see our impact in person. The morning begins with Welcome Wagon, where we greet campers with music, dancing, and high-fives. We would love for you and any guests you’d like to bring to help us give our campers a warm welcome. Afterward, you’ll join us for Flag, which is filled with ESP chants, skits, and songs.
