We will be meeting at The Pirates House this Friday in our normal meeting room - Captain Flints Hall. You must use the FRONT ENTRANCE as the side door is no longer available. As a reminder, we will be taking a membership vote on the new by-laws. Under our current by-laws, a quorum of the membership must be present in person to vote to amend or update the by-laws. Please attend on November 14 to vote and to help us celebrate 42 years of RCSE!
Our speaker for the meeting this week is Vira Salzburn. “Building Compassionate Communities” invites participants to explore the power of compassion and self-compassion practices as foundational tools for personal and collective resilience. Through interactive mindfulness exercises and guided reflection, attendees will discover ways to transform difficult emotions into sources of strength, cultivate deeper empathy, and strengthen social connections. The session also highlights the Mediation Center’s trauma-informed, resilience-building resources available to Savannah-Chatham residents seeking support, community, and sustainable pathways to well-being.
RCSE looks forward to seeing all members and guests on Friday!
November Service Project - Holiday Cards for Senior Citizens
For the month of November, our Service Committee has purchased several hundred cards and we'll be partnering with the Meals on Wheels program of Senior Citizens, Inc. (SCI) to distribute the cards to homebound and isolated seniors during the holiday season. You can pick up a packet of blank cards at the regular Rotary meetings this month. We hope that each RCSE member will make an effort to participate in this service project and help to lift the spirits of a homebound or isolated senior in our community! It's an easy way to put a smile on someone's face and to live the Rotary motto of "service above self."
Save the Date - RCSE Holiday Party - Thursday, December 4th!
The Annual RCSE Holiday Party will be held on Thursday, December 4th, at the home of Andrew Cosey from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM. Please join your fellow Rotarians for a night of cheer as we celebrate the holidays! For every person who attends, we are asking that you bring one unwrapped gift that will be donated to CASA. Toys are needed for children up to the age of 18. Savannah Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) mission is to recruit and train volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse and neglect. The toys collected will be given to these children. Please RSVP for this event in order to ensure there is plenty of food and drink for everyone. Spouses and potential members are welcome to attend! You may RSVP to Kerri at rotarysavannaheast@gmail.com If you are unable to attend the holiday party and would still like to donate a gift, we will be collecting toys at all the December meetings.
Learning about the activities of ghosts was a perfect theme for a meeting on Halloween! Before our speaker began her presentation on the Paranormal Society of Savannah, Lisa Birch awarded Kim Campbell a certificate for becoming a member of the Polio Plus Society - congratulations Kim! After all Rotary business items were discussed, Steve introduced our speaker - Mindy Shea.
Mindy began by asking for a show of hands as to who believes in ghosts! As a member of the Paranormal Society of Savannah, Mindy and her team investigate the three types of paranormal activity: 1. Hauntings, 2. Apparitions, and 3. Poltergeists. Through extensive interviews and monitoring of activities, they collect data to try and explain what is happening in a location. She then showed us the type of equipment they use which even included a motion activated kids toy! They do not charge for any of their investigations as it is done out of wanting to help others. She ended her presentation by stating that many of the ghost tours around Savannah are based on folklore, not fact.
